Nestled along the Santa Monica coastline, The Georgian Hotel—a historic gem from the 1930s—reopened its doors in Spring 2023. With an illustrious past of hosting Hollywood legends like Charlie Chaplin, Clark Gable, and Marilyn Monroe, the iconic Art Deco property has been meticulously restored by hoteliers Jon Blanchard and Nicolo Rusconi of BLVD Hospitality, in partnership with ESI Ventures.
Embracing the hotel’s past while celebrating contemporary Californian charm, The Georgian’s renovation was guided by Fettle, a leading interior architecture and design firm. The resulting 84-room property boasts 56 classic rooms and 28 one-bedroom suites with sweeping ocean views.
The unmistakable turquoise façade, accentuated by vibrant foliage from LA nursery Rolling Greens, greets guests upon arrival. Inside, the lobby’s high ceilings, custom Art Deco chandeliers, and original decorative reliefs set the stage for a journey through time. The Sunset Bar and intimate dining room flank the cinematic entryway, adorned with seasonal floral installations by French floral artist Jean Pascal.
The hotel’s Gallery 33 showcases contemporary art from local and internationally acclaimed artists and doubles as a venue for private events. For literary enthusiasts, The Library offers a unique collection of books curated by Lee Kaplan of Culver City’s Arcana: Books on the Arts.
The Georgian’s Art Deco-inspired rooms feature fully custom arched headboards by Fettle and plush beds draped in sustainable Italian linens by Bellino. Thoughtful touches, such as antique bar carts, Marshall speakers, and vegan R+Co toiletries, elevate the experience. The hotel is also the first to offer Alo Moves, providing yoga tutorials through in-room televisions.
At the ground level, The Restaurant at The Georgian, helmed by Chef David Almany, weaves together timeless culinary classics and Italian cuisine. Bar Manager Jerom Morris complements the culinary offerings with an inventive and refined cocktail menu. Wine Director Kristin Olszewski curates a wine program that tells the stories of the people behind the vines, emphasizing Italian heritage alongside California’s natural wine scene.
The Georgian Room, a historic dinner-only restaurant and piano bar, reopens for the first time in over 50 years. Frequented by celebrities in the past, the exclusive hideaway now features a 1918 ebony polished Steinway & Sons piano. Travelers can immerse themselves in local culture with off-site recreational activities, such as complimentary beach cruisers from Priority Bicycles, surfing, sailing, and yoga with Alo Yoga. Nearby attractions include The Getty Villa, the Eames House, and the Santa Monica History Museum. What more could you ask for?
