The SS18 Stella McCartney Menswear Collection honours escapism, positivity, romance and freedom. Perfect for the holiday season, tropical prints with volcanoes, palm trees, hibiscus flowers and birds of paradise feature on retro shirting, bombers and t-shirts whilst an English rose features on silky jacquard shirts in apple green and chilli red.
Neon colours contrast fair isle tank tops and multicoloured knits that showcase sunsets and skylines. A map of the Balearic Islands champions escapism whilst the words ‘fantasy’, ‘paradise’, ‘euphoria’, ‘desire’ and ‘infatuation’ are printed, embroidered or hot fixed across the collection, which was inspired by beaded bracelets from Mediterranean coastal towns.
Japanese airbrush artist Pater Sato’s striking designs appear throughout the collection playing homage to romance with the notion of Venus women on shirting also peeking out of linings and on the back of jackets. The collection is made from 67% sustainable materials including viscose, regenerated cashmere, organic cotton and denim, recycled nylon, and eco alter nappa. For this collection, Stella McCartney presents a non-toxic glueless trainer in a unique feat of engineering delivered with flashes of colour.
The SS18 collection embraces travel nostalgia, with smart silhouettes and an unusual yet successful colour palette. The diverse material choices and options of formal, tailored or casual looks will appeal to many spring/summer wardrobes.
