The first images of the Aston Martin ‘DBS 59’ limited edition DBS Superleggera were released in April and they’ve been getting people pretty excited. Twenty four limited edition cars are being produced to commemorate Aston Martin’s iconic 1959 win at Le Mans. The ‘DBS 59’ continues the success of other ‘Q by Aston Martin’ special editions including the Red Arrows Edition Vanquish S, the Cygnet V8 and the North Coast 500 series of six DB11 GTs.
The first DBS 59 was built in Aston Martin’s headquarters in Gaydon, Warwickshire, commissioned by Aston Martin Cambridge with ‘Q by Aston Martin – the luxury brand’s unique personalisation service that allows for the creation of iconic sports cars through close collaboration with the Aston Martin design team.’
Each car will represent each hour of the victorious 24-hour Le Mans and their historic 1-2 finish in the DBR1, where Roy Salvadori and Caroll Shelby took the chequered flag ahead of the sister car piloted by Maurice Trintignant and Paul Frére.
Showcasing the special skills of the ‘Q by Aston Martin’ team, homage is made to the DBR1 via specially engineered styling cues. The classic Aston Martin Racing Green is the choice for the DBS59 with a gloss finish and carbon fibre roof panel and strakes.
Extra head-turners include bronze detailing on the ‘Superleggera’ bonnet badging, bespoke front grille, brake callipers and 21” forged Y spoke satin duotone wheels – referencing the bronze switches and dials on the original Le Mans winner. The fender on each car has an individually numbered roundel with bespoke tyre wall arrow decal.
After researching the original seat material used in the DBR1, they have recreated the same weave with each seat back and the door inserts are trimmed with heritage style material. The luxurious interior continues with the bronze theme, expect a hand-crafted interior with unique bronze shift paddles and a bespoke ‘59 Edition’ logo embroidered on the seatback. This is fused with an Obsidian Black and Chestnut Tan leather interior with embroidery of the 1959 Le Mans circuit on the rear speaker cover.
The DBS Superleggera was launched in 2018 and features a mighty 5.2-litre V12 engine, and can reach a top speed of 211mph making it the fastest Aston Martin series production in the company’s award-winning range.
