Public Hotel by famous hotelier Ian Schrager, is a new, chic and edgy hotel located on the
Lower East Side of New York City, one block from the New Museum. Schrager is the co-founder of the legendary Studio 54 in N.Y.C. and innovator of the boutique hotel model, which began in 1984 with Morgans Hotel, and followed with a re-fit and re-branding of the famous Paramount in 1990 and lastly The Hudson in 1991.
A four-year labour of love for Schrager has culminated with the creation of a truly unique hotel that boasts rooms that are minimal and modern, with floor to ceiling windows, hardwood floors, smart TVs, Wi-Fi, USB ports and Bluetooth speakers. The upgraded rooms feature spectacular city views and pull-out sofas. Luxury suites provide separate living and dining spaces.
One part of the Public Hotel model that is practical (rooms start at $150 per night) with a self-check-in and zero room service. Schrager believes it could possibly be his best effort to date at delivering affordable luxury.
Public Hotel is host to 2 restaurants and 3 bars and a multimedia art space. Louis is an all in one coffee shop, luncheonette, market, and grocery with reasonable pricing, where both counter service and take out are available. Public Kitchen, the main restaurant by acclaimed chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten specialises in the very best of “New York” food, complete with a smoker, a wood burning oven, and a wood burning grill as its focal point.
