Britain’s Morgan Motor Company have released these stunning images of the Morgan Plus 8 50th Anniversary Editon supercar, which they also officially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show 2018. Fifty limited edition vehicles will go on sale through their dealership, with a price yet to be set. The very first Plus 8 prototype was revealed to the public at the Earls Court Motor Show in 1968 by its creator, Peter Morgan. Named after the famous eight-cylinder engine beneath the car’s hand-built body, this will be the last vehicles that will use the acclaimed BMW 4.8L V8 engine and each 50th Anniversary Special Edition will be issued a unique number.
Steve Morris, Managing Director of Morgan Motor Company, said:
“This 50th Anniversary Edition is a fitting illustration of the Plus 8’s beauty and finesse, coupled with raw exhilaration and capability. Performance has underpinned every one of the Plus 8s that have driven out of our factory gates for 50 years.”
The blue lacquered finish and hand-painted yellow accents on the iconic front grill, engine cover and rear towing eyes provoke nostalgic memories of Morgan’s first production Plus 8 which was known as the MMC 11. Over 6,000 Plus 8 models have been built in the last 50 years at the family-owned Morgan’s Pickersleigh Road factory. A V8 powerhouse that is faithful to its heritage with its traditional Morgan body but features the lightweight aluminium chassis and 4.8-litre BMW engine that was introduced back in 2012. Providing blistering performance at just 1,100kg, the Plus 8 is one of the lightest V8 passenger cars in the world and is capable of 0-62 mph in just 4.5 seconds as well as a top speed of 155mph. Combining advanced technology, Morgan’s impeccable craftsmanship with performance and modern luxuries, this car is sure to be recognized throughout history for what it is, a true British icon.
Jon Wells, Head of Design at Morgan Motor Company, comments:
“Firmly established as Morgan’s crowning vehicle for fifty years, the Morgan Plus 8 continues to pioneer new technology within the classic Morgan bloodline. When combined with an uncompromising attention to craftsmanship, luxury and material choice, there is no more desirable Gentleman racer.”
