Mexico holds the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage status and its rich cuisine is a testament to that. The month of May sees Restaurant Week on Mexico’s Pacific Coast, which promises to be a foodies paradise. Showcasing what’s on offer at Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit, thousands are expected to flock for Sun, Culture and Culinary delights.
Puerto Vallarta is in the state of Jalisco and is renowned for its preservation of Mexican traditions. It spans Banderas Bay and comprises Marina Vallarta, Hotel Zone, Downtown (El Centro) and the South Shore. Riviera Nayarit is in the state of Nayarit and sits just ten minutes north of the Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport (PVR). This district includes the resort town of Nuevo Vallarta, the historic village of San Blas, exclusive celebrity haven Punta Mita, surfing heaven Sayulita as well as charming fishing villages, miles of breathtaking beaches and the spectacular Banderas Bay.
From 15 May – 10 June, Vallarta Lifestyles hosts its annual Restaurant Week, over a two week period. Participating restaurants will create special three-course menus at a reduced rate, with three options available for each course to make sure all tastes are catered for. You can expect diverse menus that include the mellow flavours of Oaxaca and the Mediterranean-style fare from Veracruz. Local produce is vital to the economy so locally sourced ingredients will feature in traditional Mexican recipes as well as new twists from the talented chefs.
Inspired by cities like London and NYC, who both host their own restaurant weeks, Vallarta Lifestyles Publishing Group established Restaurant Week in Mexico in 2005. Today, it features the best of what Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit’s has to offer, with various special events and offers for local residents as well as overseas visitors. Savings of as much as 50% on menus will help offset other travel expenses, making the trip even more enjoyable to those heading to Mexico specifically for the events.
Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit have been drawing in huge crowds for Restuarant Week and top restaurants are participating year on year, turning the region’s culinary scene into one of the best in the world. With fish specialities delivered by local fishermen, visitors will be spoilt for choice and the aromas of marinated meat dishes and local salsa are sure to make your mouth water. With many outdoor events planned, visitors will enjoy the outstanding food, wines, creative cocktails, breathtaking views, Mariachi music and famous Mexican hospitality! Do you need any more excuses to visit?
