In our upcoming premier issue of Client Voyage, we feature a photo-essay on the beautiful City of Budapest, and whilst there we spent a few days at Lanchid 19, a boutique design hotel on the banks of the Danube River.
The 4* hotel features 45 rooms and 3 panorama suites, giving the options of standard room, castle view and river view, each with their own quirky design elements, whilst the spacious panorama suites offer both river and castle view options. It was a sunny day when we checked in, so it was a pleasant surprise to enjoy stunning views of the Danube and the epic Chain Bridge (see images below).
As you would expect, the interior of the hotel is very contemporary, with glass playing a pivotal role in the design, from floors, to walls to the impressive glass lift at the centre of the hotel. This open feel provides great breathing space for the functional design elements. But one of the memorable elements about the hotel has to be the very friendly staff, who were always on hand with a smile and an overwhelming sense of efficiency. This resonated throughout the trip from the reception staff to the chambermaids, who have a great system in place for keeping the rooms immaculate, very speedily! All of the staff i encountered spoke a very good level of English, which was very comforting.
Breakfast at Lanchid 19 is buffet-style with a large selection of everything you could imagine – cereals, cooked meats, cheeses, fruits, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, salads and of course, a selection of cakes! Has to be pointed out that the coffee is of a very high standard too and we found that if you had a particular request at breakfast the two staff went out of their way to assist. The wifi throughout the hotel is free and high speed, and the air conditioning was of a very good standard.
The unassuming exterior of Lanchid 19 by day is settled along a leafy cobble-stoned avenue next to the banks of the Danube and is transformed by night, when it’s glass-paneled facade is illuminated by multi-coloured alternating lights. This is clearly visible from the other side of the river and certainly helps to declare Lanchid 19 as a ‘design hotel’. Increasingly, there are many artistic and cultural events taking place in Budapest, a City of great value, making it the ideal place for a long weekend or last minute holiday.
