Hotel Kazerne is based in the De Bergen district of Eindhoven in the Netherlands. The city is the fifth-largest in the country, noted for its long history, known as a formidable design-capital and home to internationally renowned Dutch Design Week which takes place 19 – 27 October 2019. The hotel is housed on land formerly occupied by the military and previously used as a barracks.
Centrally located in Europe, Eindhoven is easily accessible via the local airport, plus airports based in Amsterdam, Brussels, and Dusseldorf are all within a 1.5-hour radius via car. Within 10 kilometres of the hotel, those looking for fine-dining can discover three restaurants that hold an impressive two Michelin stars and four restaurants with one Michelin star.
Boasting eight luxury lofts and suites plus a generous 2,500 square-metre exhibition space the hotel also has an engaging private members club which connects guests with the local creative scene.

Annemoon Geurts & Koen Rijnbeek sought out established and burgeoning figures in the Dutch design scene, including Maarten Baas, Studio Drift, and Studio Formafantasma to create exhibitions and a museum-like platform within the welcoming setting of a hotel. Local attractions include contemporary art museum Van Abbemuseum, Philips Museum, MU Artspace, and the workshop of Piet Hein Eek.
Kazerne has two of its own unique dining experiences that both benefit from open-plan kitchens, including Bar/Restaurant Kazerne, an industrial space serving healthy, vegetable-based dishes with an Italian influence whilst Restaurant Benz boasts a more intimate, fine dining experience whilst flaunting its Nordic touch helmed by Swedish Head Chef Rasmus Olander. A central courtyard connects both restaurants where modern architecture is saddled with a background of burned black wood cladding and the organic green hues of nature.
“Unlike any other hotel, Kazerne offers guests an environment where they can experience, 24/7, how design adds value to the world in which we live,” says Geurts of the core inspiration for the project.
Inside, we see a mostly black-and-white palette where old and new are fused and showcased with natural materials, textured surfaces and rich fabrics. Design pieces from Kiki van Eijk, Daphna Laurens, and David Derksen feature. Rooms and suites include the charming room, corner duplex, corner suite, courtyard duplex, family suite, Paljas loft, Hayloft, the vast 140 sqm Penthouse Loft which cover the whole attic of the main building, and the petit ‘Hidden Room’ which is reserved for chefs and artists-in-residence as part of Kazerne’s cultural program.
