Many of you will be familiar with the Grand Trunk Road, one of Asia’s oldest and longest roads which was an invaluable trade route linking the Indian subcontinent with Central Asia. It has also been the source of many stories and inspiration over it’s two thousand plus year history.
Here in the UK, London’s Multi-Award Winning Grand Trunk Road Restaurant welcomed in 2018 with new flavours of Ancient India. Head Chef Dayashankar Sharma has taken inspiration from that infamous stretch of land built for traders in the 16th century. Chef Sharma’s menu focusses on seasonal produce, recreating dishes from the villages surrounding the Grand Trunk Road whilst using cooking methods that are close to tradition. With a culinary dedication to the evocative flavours throughout Indian history, Chef Sharma has added new dishes that are ‘designed to go further and more deliciously into the secrets of a forgotten culture.’
The Grand Trunk Road gained entry into the Good Food Guide within seven months of their launch and has gone on to gain recognition from industry heads. For all those with a taste for the East, mouth-watering additions to the menu include Tandoor grilled squid, stuffed with fresh seafood, greens and sweet mango relish and Indian cottage cheese cooked in freshly creamed tomato with dry fenugreek, honey and topped with herb butter. Vegetarian options also include Zucchini dumplings stuffed with paneer and brown onion as well as Baby okra cooked with pickling spices.
India is famous for its relaxed and welcoming atmosphere and that is reflected perfectly at Grand Trunk Road. When you fuse the finest ingredients with authentic culture and great service, you achieve an Indian dining experience at it’s most vigorous.
