Housed across two heritage buildings, the Gorgeous George Hotel is the newest addition to thriving Cape Town. With 32-rooms, the hotel is a hub for the local creative scene and provides a platform for established and emerging South African artists and designers. Located on a tree-lined pedestrianised avenue at St. George’s Mall, surrounded by stunning architecture, the hotel is nearby the historic St. George’s Cathedral.
Fusing Edwardian elegance with contemporary styling whilst retaining its grand architraves, cornices, and oak flooring, the hotel thrives on the buzz of its residents. The mastermind of local design firm Urban Citizen Architecture, who had two contrasting buildings to develop – one Art Deco and the other Edwardian. Whilst the heritage and structure of the buildings have been preserved meticulously, the whole feel and aesthetic of the hotel is modern and luxurious.
The impressive Gigi Rooftop space serves up a swanky bar, restaurant and ornate swimming pool, all enticed by the incredible climate of Cape Town. Views over downtown furnish the leafy garden terrace with a truly cosmopolitan feel. Executive chef Guy Bennett ensures that the flavours and aroma’s keep guests keen.
Upon entering the hotel, its grand entrance impresses with the original brass doors, honouring the aesthetic of the building. Guestrooms are spacious and retain the original oak and steel windows, beautifully restored.

Whilst defining a strong relationship with its neighbourhood and creative community, Johannesburg-based designer Tristan du Plessis has developed a space for contemporary South African design. The work of artists including David Krynauw, Dokter and Misses, and Egg Designs are introduced with an unusual crocodile swing chair by Porky Hefer threw in for good measure! Whilst in reception, 1,800 hand-painted Delft-inspired ceramic tiles form an impressive map of Cape Town.
As you may expect, the 20 guest rooms and 12 suites are a testament to the local art scene, each hosting a bespoke, inner-city inspired mural by acclaimed Cape Town-based artist David Brits. All feature king-size beds, elegant rugs and velvet upholstered furnishings for an unabashed luxury feel, contradicting the concrete walls and exposed pipework, beautifully.
