The delightful Dorset Square Hotel in Marylebone, London, belongs to Firmdale Hotels and combines two traditional townhouses combine to offer 38 lovely rooms. Since being reacquired, the Dorset Square Hotel has gone extensive refurbishment under the stewardship of Kit Kemp, who has keenly ensured that décor pays homage to the building’s history and tradition. This approach explains the odd scattering of cricket memorabilia (the private garden, over which many of the bedrooms overlook, was the first cricket ground of Thomas Lord). Each room has its own personality, blending exotic carpets and moreish cushions.
A few shared spaces allow further sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of Marleybone High St. The drawing room is a comforting array of seating where one can kick back and relax. The Potting Shed Bar & Restaurant offers unpretentious and hearty nibbles and bites. This welcome renewal makes the Dorset Square Hotel more of a home than a hotel, which is what it originally was. One is truly made to feel like a guest, not just someone checking in and out for a few days, and is the ideal way to visit Central London.
