Another collaboration to shout from the rooftops at the moment is between 55DSL, Arkitip, Birkenstock and artist Aaron De La Cruz. 55DSL, the supercool Italian street-wear brand, Birkenstock, the world-renowned sandal maker with an incredible 240-year history, plus uber-cool LA publisher Arkitip, join forces with San Francisco artist Aaron De La Cruz. Together they have developed the 55DSL x Birkenstock Monterey Sandal, a sweat and a t-shirt.
The expertly crafted Birkenstock Monterey sandals are produced in all black with Aaron De La Cruz’s hand-painted white paint spatters appearing on the ankle and midfoot straps, making every pair unique. This process was not as straightforward as you might think. De La Cruz travelled to Italy to paint a 50ft mural for the project, and with the sandals lined-up beneath the mural, he was able to customise each pair with white spatters and drips, making each pair truly unique. As you would expect from Birkenstock, their craftsmanship and technological expertise created a specially moulded footbed providing unequalled support. The collaborating brands are stamped on the footbed whilst the metal buckles are embossed with the BIRKENSTOCK logo.
The sweat and t-shirt feature De La Cruz’s patterns that reflect the grand mural he painted. All are limited edition. Below, you can see the behind the scenes video and launch video.
