The stunning fishing port of Rovinj in Croatia is located on the west coast of the Istrian peninsula and in the northern region is the home of Hotel Adriatic. A luxurious boutique art hotel, Adriatic is the only hotel in the square, surrounded by artisan cafés, restaurants and traditional taverns that lead to the scenic harbour.
After a refurbishment last year, taking inspiration from local art and the hotel’s 100-year heritage. The hotel has become a hub for art lovers with the addition of a unique collection of over one hundred artworks by world-renowned artists from Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Italy, Germany and France. Artists include London-based Jasmina Cibic, Abdelkader Benchamma, Igor Eškinja, Goran Petercol, Massimo Uberti and Valentin Ruhry.
Art specialist Vanja Žanko also commissioned bespoke art installations for the hotel, for rooms and communal areas. A fascinating collection of taxidermy birds in flight and a dramatic neon light add character in one of the hallways.
“Guests will discover works of art with each step they make; they will stand closer to those works of art that intrigued and attract them, study some in detail and glance over others, or simply enjoy the ambience as a whole. Particularly interesting are works of art featuring different aspects of light, an important artistic matter in this hotel. The light is key to forming black hallways, which turn into light corridors with the help of the works of art.” – Vanja Žanko, Art Curator at Hotel Adriatic
The Adriatic has gained another star in its classification and has increased the size of its guestrooms. The 14 rooms and 4 suites are all uniquely decorated with individual pieces of art. Views include Rovinj’s Main Square, the picturesque old town or the stunning views of the island of St Katarina. Rooms are modern with all you would expect from a luxury hotel. The exterior has stayed true to its heritage whilst the interior of the hotel is contemporary and fuses an elegant mix of textures, tones and colours throughout.
Hotel Adriatic has a wonderfully chic French brasserie-style restaurant on the ground floor plus a swanky hotel bar, which offers one of Croatia’s largest selection of classic cocktails and whiskeys. Expect locally sourced speciality dishes in the Adriatic Brasserie, inspired by the French Riviera whilst paying homage to the history of the hotel, which opened in 1913.
