On Friday 23rd April 2021, 70 of the UK’s most inspiring artists and designers have been selected to represent British Fashion, and stand beside Dame Zandra Rhodes, in an endeavour to save one of the UK’s most important museums, and to stand up for the future of creative arts.
The Fashion and Textiles Forever Auction will be hosted on Instagram at the handle @hollyfoxleeuk Each designer or artist has pledged one special item, to be auctioned live over the course of 3 weeks; ending on Wednesday 12th May – all proceeds raised will go directly to The Fashion and Textile Museum.
“keep Fashion and Textiles Forever”
As the only museum in the United Kingdom showcasing contemporary fashion and textile design, The Fashion and Textile Museum has played a huge role in the local community since it was founded in Bermondsey back in 2003 by Dame Zandra Rhodes. Over the years I have been one of many professionals who have benefitted from the Museum's remarkable resources, and I know many of you have too. It is a museum that allows us to continue engaging with our passion.
With no government funding, the Fashion Textiles Museum has lost a massive 80% of its income during the pandemic. Despite this, the dedicated team have worked exhaustively, redeveloping their exhibition program, launching online and on-demand digital events, creating an extensive online shop and producing more digital content than ever before to support learning throughout the lockdown. Despite their recent crowdfunding efforts, the Fashion and Textile Museum still have so much to recuperate in order to continue presenting engaging exhibitions, educational courses, talks, events, and workshops for everyone.
The Fashion and Textiles Forever auction showcases works from ceramicists, painters, fashion designers, and illustrators representing the true breadth of the Museum’s influence on our creative industry.
Artists including Zandra Rhodes, Wallace & Sewell, Eley Kishimoto, Matty Bovan, Piers Atkinson, Alice Pattullo, Louise Gray, Amesh Wijesekera, Gergei Erdei, Robson Stannard, Helen Bullock, and many, many more have generously agreed to contribute works. Keep your eye on @hollyfoxleeuk
