A new Kickstarter campaign was launched today by Mocean Fitness, a UK company, who have a clear objective to fight ocean pollution by utilising industrial nylon waste and other pollutants responsible for destroying the life in our oceans.
Their collection of performance and activewear is made from a material that is constructed from regenerated nylon, a polyamide fabric created from ocean pollution – including fishing nets, nylon waste from landfills and a recycled performance fibre manufactured from recycled plastic bottles. With projections from the United Nations Environment Programme, there will be more plastic than fish in the oceans by 2050.
“The oceans are incredible. They cover more than 70% of the earth’s surface and produce half of the oxygen that we breathe. But, they’re desperately under threat.
“I love the fitness industry, but I think that the fitness wear industry can do much more for the environment. Commonly, sportswear is made from polyethylene terfitness wear(PET), the most common type of plastic in the world; this requires crude oil to produce. Items are often used for a number of months and discarded into landfills before being replaced. It’s an open-loop process that’s not sustainable and doesn’t make sense.” – Alex Platt, founder of Mocean Fitness LTD
