Mauritius is renowned for its white sand beaches, glistening turquoise sea, lagoons teaming with colourful fish, rainforests and endless sugar cane fields. Now Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Wellness Resort in Southern Mauritius is putting ‘wellness’ on the map. After a recent refurbishment, the five-star hotel has introduced new facilities, programmes and menus focussed on holistic health, making it the first ‘Wellness’ labelled resort in Mauritius.
The resort’s approach to wellness is all-encompassing – taking care of the mind, the body, the emotions and the spirit. Their ‘Wellness Bliss’ programmes begins with a consultation with the Wellness Director and Osteopath Matthieu Gossart. He will discuss your aims, any health and wellbeing issues and then give a tailored plan for your stay and also tips to practice at home. As part of the package, you can choose a wellness activity each day, which could include a spa treatment, private exercise class or fitness session with a personal trainer and even a health treatment such as osteopathy.
The treatments take place in the hotels stunning ‘Seven Colours Millesime Collection Spa’, a serene space surrounded by palm trees and tropical plants. The sound of flowing water greets you as you cross a small bridge over a pool strewn with petals to reception. After your treatment, you can relax in a private cabana overlooking a hydro pool with its bubbling jets.
On offer are several signature massages that stimulate the chakras and use essential oils that are adapted according to your needs. Ones to try out include the Ayurvedic Stimulating Massage by Thémaé, a Digestive Massage, a 3 Tea Detox Wrap and Nepalese Style Tea Exfoliation.
A wellness pavilion hosts daily yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates, Qigong, meditation sessions and series of specialist courses planned in 2018 with leading yoga and Pilates teachers. To help guests become the master of their own well-being, classes have been introduced, that cover aspects such as breathing, managing stress and tension, postural alignment, cathartic meditation and life coaching.
Wellness programmes also extend out into the adjacent nature reserve with nature walks incorporating meditation, forest bathing and yoga. All are offered against a backdrop of lush tropical scenery and panoramic views over the lagoon from a hilltop pavilion.
Healthy dishes, designed with a nutritionist and the Chef, are now suggested in each of the hotel’s 12 restaurants, to complement the holistic approach to your wellbeing (gluten free, dairy free and vegetarian). Healthy breakfast corners are available daily with fresh, organic and non-processed nutrients.
Even in your luxury suite, Seven Colours offers the possibility of a wellness upgrade: a mini-bar loaded with healthy food, a scented in-room perfume of your choice depending on your mood and energies, a Chromotherapy lamp, a yoga mat, a pillow perfume and a personalised bath menu.
A suite at Heritage Le Telfair starts from £342 per night (two sharing) on a B&B basis. The Wellness Bliss package can be added on for £45 per day per person.
