Tim Walker strikes again with his iconic imagery, this time returning to heritage brand Aquascutum (who he last shot for in 2009). Aquascutum was founded in 1851 by renowned tailor John Emary, who’s mission was to create stylish outerwear to protect from the unpredictable British weather. In Latin, ‘Aqua Sputum’ translates to ‘Water Shield’. Much has changed since then, including the British weather, although still as unpredictable as ever!
John Emary was responsible for developing ground-breaking the waterproof wool fabric that went on to be used for the trench coats of officers in the First World War and that pioneering spirit lives on. The brief for this campaign was to “create something iconic and modern with a little humour behind it.” Who else but Tim Walker could produce something so relevant? The tour-de-force creative team includes Art Director Jaime Perlman from British Vogue.
.The Aquascutum standard club check takes prominence, making a bold statement on scarves, ties, umbrellas and bags, plus a limited edition club check cape (only 16 available globally), alongside the classic trench. It’s great to know that inspiration for these images was taken from the vast archived of the Aquascutum brand – from old photographs, sketches and an old picture of Morecambe and Wise wrapped up in the brand’s iconic club check scarves!
