Some of the worlds finest international chefs will attend the Barbados Food & Rum Festival 2017 in November and host a three-part Gourmet Safari Dinner Series spanning two nights. The festival will run from November 16th – 19th and the gourmet dinner will take place November 18th and 19th in celebration of the idyllic islands’ culinary heritage.
From the UK is Chef Tom Aikens who, at 26, was the youngest British chef to ever be awarded two Michelin stars. Chef Aitkens will create his own Bajan inspired menu using locally sourced produce including rum, spices, fruit, vegetables, fresh seafood and meat. Expect British classics with a Bajan twist. Tom will close the Gourmet Safari Dinner Series by hosting a sumptuous evening of fine dining at the Tides Restaurant on Barbados’ west coast on Sunday, November 19th.
‘Tom’s food is honest and wholehearted, constructed from feelings of nostalgia, which resonate the comfort of his brassiere approach to cooking. We are excited to host him on the island and celebrate his aromatic repertoire of cuisine. To say he lays his heart and soul into his food is an understatement in itself.’ said Cheryl Carter, Director of BTMI UK
From the U.S., Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten will work his culinary delights at the renowned Cliff Restaurant and Canadian Chef Chris De La Rosa will prepare a classic Caribbean menu at The Crane Resort on Saturday 18th November. With two dedicated evenings dedicated to food and rum cocktail pairing, the distinct characteristics of Caribbean cooking will truly shine.
Now in its 8th edition, the festival will showcase ‘informative tastings, fun cocktail classes and tropical Bajan vibes on the sun-soaked shores of Barbados’. Other activities include polo, a flotilla and beach party, aiming to showcase the vitality of the Barbados Nation. Indulge yourself in the culture of local and world-class talent at the ‘Chef Cook-off’ by Oistins Bay Gardens.
As the birthplace of Rum, the Concorde Experience will use the finest mixologists to create and experiment with spice and flavour. On November 17th, hand-crafted cocktails will blend sweet tropical notes with a smooth finish or dark, full-bodied and spiced that will tingle the taste buds. These drinks will be complemented with light bites and canapes from local award-winning chefs as well as the unique and extravagant sounds of the Caribbean.
On November 18th, the Barbados Polo Club on Holders Hill will be host to a fashionable game of polo, where a selection of cocktails will be matching the pace of the game. Hilton Barbados on the shoreline of the outstanding Needham’s Point Beach will conclude the activities with a phenomenal Barbados style Beach Party, featuring live performances, DJ’s and a variety of food stalls.
